Pasadena Adjacent “Princess” Replacement Search Committee
by Pasadena Adjacent
Cat show five ^ ^ ^ - Del Mar Faire Grounds
Cat show six? – February Glendale 2/25/12
Previous shows: Pasadena – Arcadia – Palm Springs – Santa Barbara
Two “at home” kitten visits, animal shelter drop ins, on-line siamese rescue site, Face Book cat sites and placement on a waiting list. Again, I did not find my true love
but I came close
I want a princess – not a prince. This seal point prince is “pet” material. He is between types. The traditional round head and the modern wedge head. I call it “classic triangle” Some hidden forbearers gene showed up in him. The other two are modern flame points and his litter mates. Lovely contrast between his seal points and mink body color. Straight eyes/hydranga blue. Affectionate, attentive and loud. He’s swoon lovely.
Day 298 without a princess

Have fun at the cat show. And what a beautiful day for the drive down to San Diego, especially down the coast if you go the scenic route. Not too sure about that Feline Agility category though…
Our Editor Responds: No cats and unfortunately I had my camera set at small files (must of touched something I shouldn’t have) so my photos are a bust. On the plus side I hiked Torrey pines , a favorite then we headed back up the coast, Parked near then entrance to Camp Pendaltin and wound our way down to the Western Whitehouse (Nixon’s former home, and south towards the nuclear power plant). Estuarys and insider location for surfers. You should go.
I know. Did I tell you I’m a boxer stalker at Pet Smart Doggy Daycare?
Our Editor Responds: No, but you can admit it here. Consider this post a pet grief group meeting.
Btw: I put in an application for the Black Shepherd and they wrote me back with a contact number. Mary says black animals have a more difficult time getting adopted. Probably hates cats
I think you should get a bunner, but that’s just me. Have a good time all the same and I hope you find your new girl soon.
Our Editor Responds: It would be easier. I have no Bunner standards to date
This made me think of the Hiker and her boxer stalking. I see my future.
Our Editor Responds: Start now. You may have to cast a wide net if you expectations are specific. I know, thats so depressing
I have to find a pic of a cat i just saw yesterday. It’s your kind of foot.
Our Editor Responds: Hey pup, how about fetching my little princess – something like the description up front
Sorry the dog doesn’t get on well with the cats. She’s a gorgeous dog. You’ll be a great canine companion, keep looking.
Our Editor Responds: I think I’m suffering from magical thinking. Bringing a dog in (especially this size) would complicate my life in ways I’m not sure I’ve completely thought out.
I wish you luck on your ‘princess’ hunt, at least you’re brave enough to start looking, my heart is still broken from losing Lily, can’t face it again!! I know, I’m a bit of a ‘wuss’ as we say here in oz!!
Our Editor Responds: There is something to be said for waiting. My heart is broken too but I’m ready.
Good luck to you and others involved in animal searches. I’m not quite ready to take the plunge yet (ten years dog-less after 30 years with dogs and so far only missing it a little and only once in
awhile).
Our Editor Responds: Thats interesting. If I’d been without an animal for ten years I’m not certain I’d start up again – not even with a guppie
Take your time to find the absolute right one!!! When we lost our Golden Daisy it was really hard, I still miss her. But we had several months of anticipation of her end and by the time she was gone, I was ready…and brought home Kelly about 3 months later!!! You’ll find your new Princess…
Our Editor Responds: No warning with Tovah. The vet picked her up and felt the tumors. Took her home for one last night then put her down the next morning. Blindsided. On Tash’s recommendation I read “The Year of Magical Thinking.” Helped me cope. It’s a conscious choice to go slow. Day 299 and counting
Thanks Chieftess
I’m sorry your heart is still broken for Tovah. She was so beautiful. Your response to Chieftess makes me sad, but I’m glad you’re ready to take in a new Princess.
You have much stricter requirements than I had. When I was first looking for a cat, my only requirements were that she was pretty and she purred. I found Ramona on the first trip to Pasadena Humane Society. Frieda was found in an alley by a friend of a friend.
And I’m just a sucker for problem pitties as you know. Next time I’m pulling together a search committee.
I think you should be careful about your magical thinking. Life with dogs is so different and can create a lot of upheaval. Maybe you should try fostering through a rescue to see if you’re up for it?
It just occurred to me your search is different because you’re still grieving, while I hadn’t lived with animals since before I went to college. That puts a different spin on it.
Sheesh, I’m long-winded tonight. I hope you find your Princess soon.
Our Editor Responds: Your long windedness is very touching and I thank you for it. Your right about the dog. I’m playing with a childhood fantasy – Seriously, how would I even fit a dog into the cab of my tiny truck between Mr V and myself?
Why Siamese? as a kid they were my dream cat. Within minutes of leaving home to attend collage, I purchased my first Siamese “Saint Tess.” Since then, it’s been seal point siamese – all the way down
they are lovely. i wish i could take the plunge. but the realist in me is saying that i can barely take care of myself at the moment, let alone another sentient companion. maybe en el future.
Our Editor Responds: Thats why your in medical school poised to earn a decent living. My “inner realist” always lost to my “inner dreamer”
After my cat Ginger died I was always looking for another just like him, so one day I went on the PHS website and there he was, staring out at me. I went to see him right away, then hesitated for 3 weeks as I wasn’t quite sure he was the right one. Almost killed him as he got that cat flu that a lot of them catch there. Anyway, I did get adopt him in the end, and now he’s our dear Teddy, and he’s the nicest cat we’ve ever had.
You’ll never replace a beloved animal that’s died, but you can save the life of another one that you’ll love for different reasons. They’re all different, even if they look the same. Keep looking at cat shows, Craig’s list, Petfinder.com, and the PHS website, and good luck.
Our Editor Responds: No dear YOU saved the life of another. I am selfishly resolute in my pursuit of “princess” #3. The universe owes me. I did, after-all, take in Peoples.
So the search for Princess Charming continues… I hope you find that special someone soon.
Been going thru your archives… this from a while back was so sweet: http://pasadenaadjacent.com/2008/09/30/trash-tuesday-3-where-getting-it-cheap-is-part-of-the-esthetic/
Our Editor Responds: I still collect them but have come to discover a preponderance of strawberry and new car scent. Yes, I was wondering about the increased number of visits and opening of links – seems theres a few broken links and yes about princess.

Pet grief okay here, you say. So – I lost my Chloe. Taken by surprise by a pack of dogs led by a wolf. I had post traumatic stress disorder over that one and had to take sedatives. This was in 1997 and I’m still trying to heal. But I will share something magical with you….When Jim and I were getting our Christmas tree, I was looking at a wreath and suddenly burst into tears as I imagined that I saw a cat circling around the wreath. I went to the car and sobbed boo-hoo style. We then began driving to Macy’s and passed the sign for the Pasadena Humane Society. I pointed and mumbled something. Jim asked if I wanted to go there. Ummmhmmm, I managed to blurt out. I went sobbing into the cat area….and there was a tiny re-incarnation of my Chloe – funny off center mustache and all. He was a sick little thing and the counselor was reluctant to let me have him. But I got him and he is my Beau, who is now a healthy and very loyal 12 year old.
Our Editor Responds: Shanna, I’m familiar with the last part of your story but not what led to it. Jim’s so smart, I know it’s magical thinking but I’m going with you on the Chloe incarnate. I’ve had two such attacks but by pit bulls. One cat (that was new to us) was crushed and the other (Vic’s elderly cat Ellenor) Vic caught in that split second between life and death. Your earlier reality is my nightmare. I don’t have a fully fenced yard.
Ohhhh Shanna!!! What a sad/happy story!!! I can’t imagine be confronted with that pack of dogs and wolf and watching your precious cat taken…I’ve always had cats and they’ve always been indoor/outdoor…(though not so much anymore) Most of my cats have lived long and healthy lives, even though I’ve generally lived on the edge of coyote territory…but I’m quite aware of the hazards and can’t imagine seeing such a thing. Congratulations to you and Beau!!! A wonderful ending to a sad story….
Our Editor Responds: Chieftess, me too, indoor/outdoor though I never reveal that when I’m looking at Princess replacements. ….. If a cat doesn’t get hit by a car within the first year, I like to think they’ve adapted – street smarts. Next fear is dogs or coyotes then rat poison.
Princess Replacement Search Committee.for a fraction of a sec I got visions of a mail order bride acquisition…time to get the mind out of the…can’t think of the right word. Gutter ain’t appropriate.
Best wishes on finding the new fluffy loved one.
Our Editor Responds: “can’t think of the right word” – how about Cherry Blossom mail order service? In operation since 1974
Miss my snowshoe siamese.
Our Editor Responds: Once you go siamese you can never go back
Would you just get a new cat for flipsake!?! GAWD!
Our Editor Responds: well I never! off to yoga where I plan to oooohhhhm away your insensitivity
First a pony, now a princess. What are we going to do with you?
Our Editor Responds: I have issues
