Never on Sunday

Our Latest Float Finding Among the Family Archives

Never on a Sunday when the church is full of people
And the bells are ringing in the steeple, la la….

Oh, you can kiss me on a Monday
A Monday, a Monday is very very good
Or you can kiss me on a Tuesday
A Tuesday, a Tuesday in fact I wish you would
Or you can kiss me on a Wednesday
A Thursday, a Friday, and Saturday is best
But never never on a Sunday
A Sunday, a Sunday ’cause that’s my day of rest

The Rose Parade never takes place on a Sunday. Our 2012 New Years gift to you? Our desire to ditch the rules. Pasadena Adjacent & Co present the Rose Parade, on a Sunday, without commercial interruption, OR Bob and Stephanie. They’re at church – kiss me.

Below you’ll find Pasadena Adjacent’s Collection of Rose Parade’s Past. Mostly from the 40′s. Thank you for visiting Pasadena Adjacent on this – our 400th post. Happy New Year one and all. Here’s to a pony in 2012. Bottoms up!

  1. Haha I think Stephanie was fired for her ” nuts in the face” comment last year. That must be on YouTube somewhere.

I’m hoping to catch up with her this year and ask her if she’s bitter born again, again.

Our Editor Responds: I am shocked you remember these incidences. Although on youtube recall, I do remember Stephanie’s rather awkward faux pa.

…..And it’s those moments that had me writing KTLA in protest the year she was removed from her perch and placed in the rain under a tubular plastic umbrella. Oh yes, and Bob (from on high, desperately trying to hold onto his gig) repeatedly mentioning how he had produced a child while post menopausal Stephanie took on water.

  2. Sorry, “nuts on my face” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySVa3uP5II0

  3. Love these pics. Thanks for sharing these slices of history; they’re brilliant! Happy New Year to you.

Our Editor Responds: Thanks Kat. Nice to see you back in the Adjacents. Happy New Year to you too.

  4. I knew you had some old dinosaurs collecting dust somewhere. Thanks for these oldies but goodies, PA!

I still miss the Helms float, I mean their bakery! And looks like you have a nice shot of Colorado btwn Madison/Oakland.

(PS: Have the Happiest & Newest Yr!)

Our Editor Responds: Personally, I’m a fan of the mighty trout. And yes to location. I have double the amount of photos shown here but selected many based on the surrounding business and building views. Happy New Year to you!

  5. Beauty queens, baseball players, bakers and bears
Dragons and dinosaurs, hot dogs and giant trout
South sea islanders all dressed up in towels
These are a few of my favorite things

    sorry I couldn’t resist…Happy New Year!

  6. I don’t have a New Year’s song, but I will have a New Year’s movie. Best wishes for 2012, PA and Vic. Anxiously awaiting your new arrival — the Lake LA installation.

Our appropriately titled New Years song (but little else) is about a hooker with a heart of gold. It falls within the grand parade tradition of RP themes. Floats whose concept to theme ratio is a bit of a stretch. Lake LA, ran into first administrator on the project at a Venice party last night (up to the third administrator thus far). Also ran into well connected Pasadena insiders. General consensus – Victor Hugo (quote) is an idiot.

  7. How fun! Loved the slide show. Love that you held onto these pics and that your family took them in the first place

Our Editor Responds: Can’t take all the credit. Some are ours – some are off the net

  8. This is so wonderful, I can hardly stand it. Thank you!!!

Our Editor Responds: I hope you “glimpsed” the South Pasadena Float. It was one of the funniest

  9. Happy New Year, PA. I love the slide show. Such a great collection of photos. But what’s with the Playboy bunnies?

Your exchange with Princess Haha got me googling the Stephanie Edwards/Bob Eubanks rift. I had no idea about any of it, including “nuts on the face.” Wacky.

Congrats on your 400th post! I look forward to many more in 2012.

Our Editor Responds: I like to throw in a little something x-tra at the end to see if anyone actually sits through the presentation.

  10. i agree! nothing snarky to add. and i loved the slide show.

Our Editor Responds: I could go into full snark mode on the South Pasadena float. It’s absolutely charming

  11. how nice…I tell you I turned the tv on monday and there was the rose parade….never on sunday, how catholic…. anyway….as I watched it I found Ramona’s friend’s mom Tonya sitting on one of the winning floats…organ donors..her cousin passed away and I guess got donated…I’m no longer her friend because I thought it rediculous for me to spend the night at her bug infested home so she could attend the funeral. She wanted to spend the night at her Aunts house and leave the kids at home…nobody wanted them there. I accidently called her fathers phone and well they had sedated every one….newest shipment of heroin? or just the usual mind surpresents. They don’t drink you see. Well anyway she’s bucks up and is in the parade and I’m at home poor and so very very lucky. best wishes into the new year …my mission, how to raise 2000.00 in two weeks with no clue…impossable. cooked the plain yellow pumpkin into pies for new years. have mice in couch…. hmmnn.

Our Editor Responds: More protestant then anything. You make me laugh

  12. Thank you for dropping in on Pasadena Adjacent with your good wishes for the New Year. I hope you enjoyed the slide show. The editor is touched and would like to thank you for supporting “the little blog that could” ________ fill in the blank

  13. Beautiful images, as always, thank you for sharing…Happy New Year!

Our Editor Responds: Thanks Vetti – happy New Year to you!
