Take a Walk on the Dire Side

When the masses clog downtown’s escape arteries, it’s time to put down the brushes and kill an hour. Come join us on our evening stroll, as we experience the pleasures of stale piss and “wonders in concrete”

The itinerary: north on Santa Fe  - right on the Olympic Street Bridge – right on Rio Vista Ave – south on Soto – right on the Washington Street Bridge – right on 15th street – return on Santa Fe Ave

Trash Tuesday #81: Where Getting it Cheap is Part of the Esthetic

Bad Desi and Lovely Lucy (enlarge)

If I’ve learned anything from my recent travels to the southwest, it’s that I’m not alone. Yes, Lucille Ball is everywhere. Whether by photo, autograph, vortex or real estate holding, “I love Lucy” got around. And once I surrendered to her aura, I discovered it’s true color (and it’s not red) it’s A-Q-U-A!

….and it’s not any kind of Aqua. It turns out Ms Ball is quite exacting. After several aqua based failures, I eventually found that perfect mix. Swimming pool aqua and Lucy loves it!

The lineage of my aluminum tube glider was not that of a curbside find, but an intervention. It was slated to become a tag sale item in an estate sale being conducted by my favorite aunt (the previous owner had been her Glendora neighbor). And since I’m her favored niece, she gave me this little stunner. So once again, I reiterate “getting it cheap remains part of the esthetic”

Bio-Morphic Elegance

On a visit to the Williamson Gallery at Scripps College, I had the good fortune to come across the contemporary ceramic work of Sadashi Inuzuka. At the refined end of the bio-morphic (and certainly one of my betters) his sensibility is one I share.
