Jesus to Jurassic: A Hole in One
by Pasadena Adjacent
There’s more to Apple Valley then a stuffed palomino. Fellow travelers, if we truly wish to score a hole in one, we must trudge further back on the evolutionary scale. Beyond the sands of the “Last Supper” to a time and place where the Jurassic and commerce once met. Unsuccessfully.
Yes indeed, to the ”Crumbling Concrete Wonders” a wastin away under a desert sun. Visionary Lonnie Coffman’s 1970′s stone age dream was to create a miniature golf course on the edge of a tumble weed wilderness. Assisting him in his vision was Air Force serviceman and Coffman’s tenant Gregory L. Wicker, who provided labor in exchange for rent
The sad reality of the “Jurassic Putt and Duck” was that Lonnie never got to see a dime off his investment; and this folks makes it art.
Alas, what could have been (enlarge)

Installment Fifteen of my series examining the “Secret, Feral and Concrete”
Cahuila Road, Apple Valley, CA
On the south side of Cahuila Road; a quarter mile east from Central Road.
Wow, that’s amazing. I love that last impotent dino photo.
Your religious pilgrimage continues!
I’m kinda wundering who/whom your dinosaurs represent.
I guess by now I should stop being surprised by the weirdness in California.
What a place!
There is a guy who sells (self-published maybe) books with stuff like this & I think makes money on it – maybe someone can make BUCK on Putt & Duck? It’s mostly for the 4W drive set – oddities of the desert. Will have to get the titles.
I laughed, I cried, I got out my Barney toys. This is the best one yet.
“Lonnie never got to see a dime off his investment; and this folks makes it art.”
What would it be if it DID make a dime (or two)? I like your definition since it allows that what I do is actually art. But are you implying that if someone does make money then he or she can no longer lay claim to the “A-word”?
This is great! Gotta love the desert. Closer to home and this would now be long gone. Out there it’s history, inspiration and, although unsuccessful, a reminder that there are still places you can follow your dreams.
Is the perfect desert playland your work? That’s marvellous.
A few of those shots look a little like the Nazca Lines.
A friend of mine used to write local travel books, “150 Day Trips in the Panhandle”, etc. I see a future in publishing for you and Mr V.
These are really cool, I’m impressed with the research you’ve done and the presentation is superb. They just keep getting better and better.
Every tribe needs its earthworks? Maybe the site has some geomantic potency? I see the kin of the White Horse of Uffington and the Rude Man of England….

This is exactly the way Apple Valley is supposed to look, I think.
Fantastic!
I feel like the sun has gotten to me. Was that all a mirage? I need a drink of something, maybe as much as that last dinosaur.
Nice juxtoposition there. So sad. For some reason it reminds me of the Glass Menagerie.
Glass menagerie with thyroid issues.
“glass menagerie with thyroid issues” is so funny I had to repeat it.
This really is the best one yet. Honestly, you and Mr. V really must do a documentary series on these places. I don’t know how you find all this stuff!
Oh my, I can already hear Huell Howser there. And now that we know dinosaurs didn’t really look like that at all, and had feathers and bright colors, this should be preserved as a historic site so people of the future can laugh at our silly notions. Like the Victorian ones in Crystal Palace Park, London
I read a lot of books about dinosaurs when I was in school. I think they’re like horses, our connection to them makes us feel powerful.
The Jurrasic Park music for the CP video is sublime.
Methinks PA should take a hop across the pond. We need a tour of this museum only she can provide.

“Oh my god you’ll not belief that. My mindless kitten simply just farted on my leg!? I mean what is the problem with this!? I feed this thing and I end up with that in exchange. I even now will not really belief this. After all, you hold quite a few important information there in your posting. I knew Google are going to take me to some helpful stuff today :). O . k . should search this creature now! Have a nice day you all!”

“I learned about your blog and visited it for the first time now. It’s nice. I own 5 cats now (and they have individual dog lol), it’s kind of a menagerie at my home. But in that respect is never a dull moment, that’s for sure. My beloved breed of cat is the Siamese, though actually I haven’t seen a cat yet that I didn’t like, no matter of its breed”
