Behind the red curtain. Nice work. The images look great, the cell tower disguised as a palm looks like it could be a photograph. They all do, but the cell tower is very convincing. Will they let you paint the little black boxes to blend in? I assume they must be lights of some sort. The ocean is lovely too. Excellent quote.

Very creative, I understand now why the nozzle had to be cut lenghtwise. So, did you 2 young fine artists with obvious great potential envision and design the steel stucture on top of the sign or did that spot exist already, just waiting for some creative types to fill it with a perfect idea?

I just came from Tash’s post and I’m STOKED! I like the mural in every way, the colors especially speak to me. Tell Mr V I’m impressed. Is he impressionable???

I meant to ask you about the Jarmusch quote. What about the drama with Noli Novak and Jose Maria Cano?
Somehow, without a different context (like Warhol supplied in his soup cans, etc) and the only discernible difference is using a different medium, it seems kinda sleazy to me. I mean, is bigger really better?
Where does the time go.
Eddie and I are still living in Sun Valley.
I am working way too hard building the
TV / Movie Sets.
Don’t see much new Art and making even Less.
Working full time to Live, is boring.

PA, (off topic): R U talkin about the long-standing TwoHeys on the San Marino/Alhambra border?? Believe It or Not, I’ve always wanted to ck it out but haven’t found the motivation within to go in. I got your comment of complaint.

Wow, what a fabulous piece! You do this all the time?
You know, a blogger mate of mine in Austrailia, a city planner, wrote of the practice and study of survey to judge the effect of the visual cityscape on urban inhabitants.
I truly believe in the importance of the visual environment:
a mural in my hometown, not nearly as refined as yours, changes the entire mood of an otherwise drab existence for acres around it.
Such a meaningful theme you have chosen. Kudos to you for caring enough about your neighborhood to make such a rock solid committment; how very compassionate!

As was the case in serious music, I was unschooled in art (serious or otherwise), by my choice. To satisfy a liberal arts requirement, I took “Spots and Dots” because it was rumored to be easy. I got yet another C.
So seeing the sheer scale of some art has been part of my self-education.
About half a football field, Diego Rivera’s mural depicting auto workers at the Detroit Institute of Art is my latest case in point. You could study it for a lifetime. In Simon Schama’s series on PBS, the sheer size of some (most?) of Rothko’s rectangles–who knew?
Oh yes, the David. That counts, I guess.

CO: Thank you (I’ve seen your support all over the place) x-tra kibble for you. The four elements of water/air/fire and dirt are all inner related so I used them as the poetic backbone from which to construct the narrative. Thats it. No Da Vinci code that I’m aware of.
D: We work from photographic sources (a few we found online) How else are we to get under the underbelly of a airplane? You stand on the ground and look up so the elements had to express that perspective. Re; the bar? Nooooo That was the biggest challenge of all. Creating designs that where the info was above and below the bar with minimal disruption. Go back and you’ll see it. Didn’t mess with the boxes because they’re hardly working as it is. We documented it so we don’t have anyone pointing the finger at us. Blame the artist. It happens.

PJ: I’m glad to see the quote questioned. As pithy as it is on first reading I too have issues with it. Tricky stuff when trying to comment on culture visually through it’s signs and symboIs. I wasn’t aware of the Noli Novak and Jose Maria Cano issue so I looked it up. This is a problem with being a small fish. Without power, your complaints fall by the wayside. Never put work online that you haven’t established in either a gallery or public setting. It’s akin to putting your manuscript on-line before you’ve written the novel. Be careful about what you put online.
This was a major legal case that made the art world shudder
AH: (and of course Tash and PJ too) I love it when I see women supporting other women. I’ve always tried to do that (passing along opportunities if I felt they were relevant, showing up at events) and it makes me feel good when it’s appreciated in return. So I’m tellin ya here. Willie: Again, thanks for visiting. I do this as often as I can get hired to do this. It’s a process of applying for a commission, making finalist based on past work, developing and presenting a proposal, being chosen then praying the commission goes through.
