The Wegman video you described I think was called "Milk/Floor".

The only other performance artist I can think of off hand that made it into pop culture was Laurie Anderson. There are probably others but at the moment I can't think anymore and I need to run... see ya

PS Holly Solomon's son first name is Tom, and I heard he just opened a new gallery... mid-town Wilshire (I think)

Years ago Mr V and I attended an exhibition at La Jolla Museum of art that featured the early video work of William Wegman. Try as I might, I’ve not been able to find my favorite video from that showing. In it, Wegman shot the video through the bottom of a drinking glass (laid on it’s side). Leading to the drinking glass is a trail of milk that Man Ray joyfully laps up until he careens into the glass that bounces into the video lens. I tried doing something to that affect here at 1:34 seconds. I was amused.

Jean: Nothing is to good for our Phoebe (except according to her cheap caretaker)

AH: We in the Highlands partake of the finest vintage when it comes to sugary drinks (think soda pop king Galcos). In this case "said bottle" was a 2004 bottle of Broguiere's egg nog. I keep the empty for pouring <del datetime="2009-07-11T17:15:41+00:00">tap</del> water into my <del datetime="2009-07-11T17:15:41+00:00">Mr Coffee</del> expresso maker. About the dog sitter (true story?)

Vanda: Find them!! My first siamese cat watched me wrap christmas presents and then put them under the tree. When I woke up the next day I discovered the entire contents of my kitchen fruit bowl under the tree (including a grapefruit). I found the tooth marks. She was my all time favorite cat.

D: It was me. You remember Baby moon Parsons?

CO: You’re barking up the wrong tree here. I’d like to see you try that tough talk with a mountain lion.

PJ: Sugar? I’d like to think so but I wouldn’t bet the farm on it. It’s the age old story, children, dogs (and gratuitous sex) steal the scene.

Tash: Wegman is the only performance artist I can think of who managed to cross into mainstream markets. Besides the Monte Carlo, Mr V also sold his truck to a fellow who also wanted to cherry it out. It was a 1962 Chevy full bed that Mr V acquired through the trade of a watercolor to Loydd Hamerol (he’s the guy who did the cut out cars in the half circle you photographed).

Mid-Town-G: The only marker to Will Acres home is a concrete pad. (you can build the go go and I’ll make the non functioning body parts)
Mr V met Wegman in the early 70’s, liked him. Remember when he went back to painting in the late 80’s? Saw a show at Solomon’s (son’s) gallery. What ever happened to him? anyhow, Wegman was a visiting artist at PCC.

Clarification:

Yes... trail heads are on Mulholland Drive but Wilacre Park isn't. Wilacre Park also charges a parking fee of five dollars per auto. Runyan Canyon Park, Fryman Canyon Overlook and Coldwater Canyon Park all have trail heads off of Mulholland Drive.

We at Pasadena Adjacent recommend Jerry Schad's Afoot and Afield in Los Angeles County as well as Day Hiker's Guide to Southern California by John McKinney

Forgot to mention William Wegman and his dogs Spot, Spot, Spot and Spot. They Rock. And I was lucky enough to have him as a guest lecturer for one semester a long time ago in art school; I rember him as funny, smart, likable and very open to talking about new and never tried creative ideas. Wegman brings back fond memories.

If I knew you were coming I would have baked a cake, or at least the drinks would have been on me.

It's funny; the locals refer to the whole area as Fryman Canyon, or Fryman Canyon Park. Your in my hood now and I never even knew it was part of a silent movie stars estate. But you're into those things, so of course you'd know about the movie starlight.

The dog park is indeed off Mulholland Dr and it is a fun place to take our dog Spot who likes to make lots of spots. Unfortunately for CO/CP felines are allowed (sorry poochie) I guess that leaves you out.
