At one time Chris Burden was the Teddy Boy of the Art World. You might remember him from this 1971 performance piece “Shoot”
He lived… Neda died from her gunshot wound. A bullet courtesy of a Basij member hiding on the rooftop of a civilian house in Iran
I like the change in saturation towards the end of the video. I played it three times (it’s not broken) for the effect.
I’ve got my Tehran post up too. It’s always dicey, there’s that tipping point where protests can go horribly wrong. I like this.

Pasadena Adjacent received my legal council without argument and has created an updated version of this post and has rerouted the links relating to the present turmoil in Iran.

“Now…I’ve got a bone to pick with this stunning piece of public art credited to Chris Burden; wedged between the Los County of Art Museum and it’s new addition funded by Eli Broad
…….and thats because I’ve seen it before. 16 years before in a parking lot by an artist with a strong local reputation but without an international one. It’s artist Sheila Klien who through her association with the Department of Public Works placed 25 lamps spanning a period from 1925 to 1992 on a meridian placed in a parking lot on the corner of Santa Monica blvd and Vermont titled “Vermonica”. Nice shots, all of them, of these lights – all of them.
That’s a lot of street lamps. What it really needs is Gene Kelly singing and dancing.
You’re so fucking bright. You really are.
Let there be light–brilliant, indeed.
The Life photos are amazing.
Well done PA – also what AH said.

This would make a cool permanent installation somewhere if they use the energy efficient coil bulbs. Did they? Hope so.
MG, it is permanent. It would be even better yet if it were solar powered. Suck sun by day, blow light by night. Unfortunately it isn’t solar powered.
