  1. xoxoxo

  2. That top photo looks like the desert garden at the Huntington. The camel looks very handsome (and only slightly incongruous) in that setting.

  3. How’d you do that, clever girl?

  4. That looks like it could be the Huntington in the desert?

  5. It makes me homesick for Moorten Botanical Gardens in Palm Springs where I lived for several years before coming here.

  6. I want to know how you managed to get four arabs and a camel into San Marino?

  7. Gotta say, this collage is gorgeous. Who doesn’t love a camel? I’ve heard it’s the most googled animal on the net.

I admire your sense of play. You put yourself out there and have so many wonderful twists and turns in your blog. I’m always entertained and occasionally informed.

  8. Gorgeous spot. Is one of these fellows Lawrence of San Marino?

  9. Gorgeous gorgeous. (And that camel!!!)

  10. I think you should sell it to the Huntington and they can make posters. Though they may find the four wisemen a bit controversial.

  11. The camel is charming. The cacti delightful. But how about that water? Now that’s an oasis worth visiting. Very cool.

  12. I’ve added a little extra to the bottom of the (above) post because, as we all know “Cactus is our friend”. Sing along!

The top photo was done with my outdated Cannon G3 (why it’s slightly blurry which I would argue works for the overall effect in my digital diptych) The bottom image is much sharper and comes from my Cannon G9. the etching I pulled off the web several years back, probably changed the file name on it and can’t tell you anything about it. The dangers of copyright infringement. To much info?

Susan: location location location! I had to look up incongruous and I’m better for it.

AH: Not nearly as clever as the boys at Adobe. My secret? Photoshop. Amateurs like to look down on Photoshop as if it’s some form of cheating. Please, like photography in and of itself is the embodiment of truth, (heavy sigh, shakes her head from side to side). Photoshop is the greatest vehicle ever for orchestrating visual imagery. Ok, I’m getting off of my soapbox now. Don’t wish to scare anyone.

CO: And many a scientist would agree with you. We are living in a desert. A desert in a desert, very surreal.

Ann E: The Moorten Gardens are across the street from my favorite Palm Springs hotel. Very close by is some wonderful cross town trails.

John E: It wasn’t easy bringing in a camel considering the last time I was at the Huntington the guards were relentless in chasing me about for openly carrying a camera. Bukowski would be rolling in his ashes!

J.C.: You are too kind. I found this in the Roycroft dictionary (my latest passion) “Loafer: The man who is usually busy keeping someone else from working” my job as a blogger.

D: Why not, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out Lawrence of Arabia was a relative of George S. Patton. One of San Marino’s finest (along with the John Birch Society).

Laurie: I concur, I’m not modest. Go back to the last post (I’ve put in a post post response)

AH: Did you hear the one about a Rabbi who walks into a bar and discovers a Shia, Sunni and Suffi?

Margaret: Did you know that the pedigree of certain lines of camels date back to Muhammad and his time in Medina? A camel with traceable bloodlines was recently sold in Dubai for a huge amount of money. An interesting link about Jews in Mecca/Madina.

  13. I now know so much more about camels, and I’m better for it.

  14. How Palm-Axisesque of you. Is the camel related to the elephant?
