Trash Tuesday: Where Getting it Cheap is Part of the Esthetic #7

_studio

In the tradition of Warhol’s Silver Studio, welcome to Kitty Triage

tovah_silver

Where an I.V. drip, hung from the rafters of my studio, snakes it’s way to Tovah’s current hospital bed. This chair is one of two mid-century knock offs, found at the curbside of the Pasadena Nursery, Burkhart’s. Tovah is recuperating in style under the refractive light of a disco ball.

The phrase “getting it cheap is part of the esthetic” is by my photographer friend D Gorton.

  1. So familiar. I’ve been giving my cat fluids every other day for over 3 years now. Tovah looks like she handles it well.

  2. Tovah is a lucky, pretty kitty.

  3. I’m so impressed. And Tovah is doing better, right? Eating some? Hate the chair, but that’s just me. No way to sit in these and be anything but uncomfortable, but a good way to get rid of guests quickly. Must be from the time of, what’s you hurry, here’s your hat.

  4. danish modern – 1960s?

  5. I like the chair. It’s the one that I like to sit sideways in, then with my feet up over the back and my head down. Or, face down on the seat with my legs over…nevermind.

I just wanted to say that I’m glad you and Tovah are doing better.

  6. And a disco ball! The party never stops down there.

  7. Ciao Manhatten! Tovah’s the spitting image of Edie

  8. Another cat!? Halloween, I guess.
So many. Huh…,I wunder what McCain and Obama are gonna do about that.

Useless waiting for them pols to do anything so I’d better go to my blogsite & post some dogs. As that famous song starts: “This is a Dogs World!!”

  9. That disco ball/IV bag pairing is brilliant. If I ever have to get chemo again, I’m gonna’ hang one from my IV pole, right next to the red feather boa.

I love the fabric on the chairs. And a pair? What a find!

  10. Happy, lucky, sweet kitty. Looks a bit like Jasmine (http://hotdoghaiku.blogspot.com/ July 7th, 2007 post).
The disco ball is f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s! Andy Warhal isn’t – but then all I know about him is from the movie about Eddie Sedgwick & he was portrayed as a brute. (after a Wiki trip I know get the Ciao, M…)
We went to some club in SoHo for Oliver’s after show party – it was terrible – a disco club – he didn’t even go inside – BUT they had a working, rotating disco ball!

Isn’t the mural at St. Andrew’s great? Definitely contemporary portraits. I have a close up of the 4 women but it came out fuzzy. I went on a Saturday afternoon & the church was open for anyone to go in.

  11. Tovah seems like she is taking it alright, so skinny. Is that because she’s dehydrated or is she not eating? Amazing that she doesn’t pull the iv out of her paw. This girl lives in the fast lane!

  12. Keith: three years? you are a saint

Petrea: yup, she’s pretty, very lucky and she’s killing me

AH: Slowly but yes. Yesterday was her first full swing day. Eating, drinking, pooping, barfing and screaming at me. Good taste is getting in your way of dumpster diving. Grab it quick and decide later. I like the “what’s your hurry, heres your hat” People say that to me all the time.

T Rex: Hello mysterious dinosaur with a knowledge of modernist design

Ms H: They are sturdy chairs…thank you and thanks for the electronic link to “hello pussycat whoa…whoa…whoa”

Elaine: never N-E-V-E-R…we are fools for fun

John E.: she is indeed, but nicer and slightly less suicidal

CO: maybe on your blog, here it’s cat land 24/7. If you post, I’ll give you a bone

Susan: Did you take the boa to chemo? Lets hope it doesn’t come to that but definitely put it in your performances. Stats is putting up their x-mas crap (yes, stats likes a head start) they sell them in differing sizes as ornaments. Tovah loves the fabric as a makeshift scratching post.

Tash: I left a note for Jasmine. Yes. Warhol came out ugly. He was/is an enigma. I attended a lecture at downtown MOCA when the Warhol retrospective was running. It was given by the greatest lecturer ever, Kirk Vardedoe. He opened my eyes to Warhol. I didn’t know he was sick at the time, but he was dead within months.

Here are some Charlie Rose Interviews (they should be hot links)

    Kirk Varnedoe lecture one

    Kirk Varnedoe lecture two

RE: It’s a hydration process where you place the needle under the skin and pump them up with water (like a water balloon). I just discovered what Tovah did with last nights dinner, it’s under the table…the ants led me to it. I guess she’s still having issues keeping things down. So far breakfast is holding. Did you see the Mel Ramos? Just for you, it’s on the last post.

  13. This looks damn near like an installation!

  14. Thanks for the tip about the disco balls being available at Stats. I think I’ll get one for my friend who is about to have a stem cell transplant at MD Anderson in Houston. He (and the nursing staff) should get a kick out of the disco ball hanging next to his chemo and stem cells.

  15. Natasha (http://palosverdesdailyphoto.blogspot.com/) told me you’d left a comment on my pic of Jasmine ‘laughing’, and I took a look at your site. Poor kitty! Poor mama! I had to give fluids to my elderly diabetic cat for a long time, and it was Not Fun.
    Hope Tovah is getting better.
