That Cats Killing Me!

As the “Return of Tova” post concluded, Tova in“real time”imploded

Are you sitting? High Fever, Poisened Liver, Hyperactive Thyroid, Dehydration, IV’s, Ultra-Sound, Hopitalization…and the bill

In steps Carrie Howes D.V.M., who did the fixing. I was the puddle off in the corner.  Tova has a new vet and I have a bag of fluid with a big needle that I’m going to be sticking Tova with (nod to AH).  So far the little monsters spitting back the pills and she won’t eat…Did I mention I lost the battle I had with a lower bicuspid? That was Friday.

  1. Hey come for a visit to PVDP. I’ve got an award for you.

  2. Sorry you have to go through all this. I can’t think (actually I wouldn’t allow myself to add it up) how much Tess, aka The World’s Best Dog, R.I.P., cost in knee operations; both back legs, two times each through the years. Glad I could afford it and would do it again. Good luck. Did you say you were a puddle in the corner or you puddled in the corner? At any rate, the floor hides any trace. Just think of the message on the absolute worse motivational poster ever produced…a cat hanging from a bar…with the words: hang in there. Terrible poster, simply awful.

  3. Can you mash the pill and squirt them down her with an eyedropper?

  4. This always seems to happen when money is tight-at least in my house.

    I love that song choice.

  5. I’ve tried to warn u humans bout them kittens.

  6. How to give a cat a pill. Keep her a little hungry. Get her favorite wet food. Grind the pill up and mix it with a tiny portion of the food. Once she licks it up, feed her some more as a reward. Give her plenty of praise.

  7. “We left of center bloggers have to stick together.”
Huh? Gee, you humans ez to fool! I’ve been a Demo, a RePub, & an Indie.

Now, I’ve finally found my affiliation – the Doggies!

Thanks 4 de Award. Here’s mine 2 u, pa – The Dog Bone!

  8. Poor little Tovah. Is she doing any better? I loved the empty chair (that’s a picture that paints a thousand word). Great dialogue as usual.

  9. I’m so sorry about your troubles & the expenses. My friend TJ (http://hotdoghaiku.blogspot.com/ – who was the 1st blogger I ever knew!) had a similar situation with her cat Lilly who got very sick, turned out to be diabetic & was given shots for the last 4 years of her life. I hope Tovah is eating more by now. Was your battle with a tooth? A. is a really great dentist.
PS – no worries about blog “visiting” all the time. I know by now that you do – all the time – when you can. :)

  10. Oh, poor you! Poor Tovah! Big kittie loving hugs and kisses to both of you. (And that bottle of Southern Comfort from Foremost.)

I’m so sorry you have to deal with this.

Oh, I’m just corny enough to embrace the uber-goofy term blogging buddy forever. It’s probably because I am a big sentimental nerd. Can I still hang out with you cool kids?

  11. Update to all:
Tovah thinks I’m Satan. The needle/water combo went poorly. I stuck myself with the needle by accident. I tried grinding the pill and placing the grinds into the syringe this morning but too much is lost in the process. Tonight I’m going to dip the pills in butter. I’m getting them into her but it requires that I maul her in the process. She hates me.
She heated up again yesterday but now she’s a little better and she’s eating some. I’m on antibiotics for my lost bicuspid. The Doctor said that he had to wear a brace for two days afterwards due to injuries he suffered while trying to yank offending tooth out of my head. Good! That night I had a dream where I shaved my head.

If you didn’t open the link “real time” DO! Ms H sent me a mp3 file to a computerized version of “Whats New Pussycat” so good, so very good

D: I went down the financial tunnel of ruin with my Tess the best cat in the world RIP. Isn’t that floor wild? I want it in my kitchen. What was I thinking when I bought white linoleum. Madness I tell you!

Queen V, AH, I’m trying them all, thank you

Tash: Her diagnosis is hyperthyroid which we can’t address until everything else is fixed. It’s gonna be a rest of life condition. A’s not local darn it. With my mouth, proximity counts.

Laurie: you can hang out if you bring the bottle NOW. You can wear my Shriner Fez and I’ll call you buddy, Now… right now!

  12. My cat PK came back after two long weeks, and is skin and bones but otherwise ok, according to the vet. To get a cat to swallow a pill, have someone hold the cat firmly, place your finger behind the last molar, which forces the jaw open. Throw the pill down the throat and immediately close the jaw and hold the jaw close while firmly blowing on the nose for 2 – 3 seconds which forces the cat to swallow. Works everytime.
It is not too far to travel for a ‘good dentist’ :D

  13. Annie
That is the BEST news I’ve heard this week.

  14. I’m glad you tipped me off on how to get in to post because I couldn’t find the way myself. I hope Tovah is improving. Does the vet know why all this stuff started happening? Good thing these cats have multiple lives. I’m sending out healthy thoughts for your lovable devil.

  15. OK, about shots and cats: you need two people, the shot giver holds the cats nape of the neck and injects, the other person holds the cats front legs down on the floor, the shot giver also straddles the cats behind, between the knees. How do I know this works? Hannah’s Liver was failing and we had to give her shots for the last three months she was alive. Easy once you get the hang of it.
Hannah lived to be 17, yes cat years, she had a good life but we still miss her.

  16. I leave town for a few days and look what happens! I’m in wild, wonderful West Virginia – land of bad perms and all-you-can-eat buffets.

I am so sorry to read about Tovah and hope that she is recovering.

Thanks for the award. One of my “cousins,” a young woman in her 30′s told me that she reads my blogs and thinks I’m “intriguing.” I liked that! I pass the same compliment to you, Miss Intriguing Pasadena Adjacent.
